2018 Improvement of the Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Poly (lactic acid) with Cationic Monomer

Polylactide (PLA) is a biodegradable polyester obtained from the synthesis of lactic acid, which can be produced from renewable resources such as sugarcane or corn [1]. PLA is environmentally friendly biopolymer due to its biocompatibility and biodegradability [2]. PLA has high modulus and tensile strength value. However, it also possesses some disadvantages, for example, films of PLA is very brittle and poor heat stability [3]. Therefore, is limited its some industrial applications. In the recent years, the great attention has been devoted to PLA modification leading to the improvement of thermal and mechanical properties. In the literature, various studies have been realized by using different methods in order to improve the properties of the PLA. Many technologies, such as annealing, adding nucleating agents, forming composites with fibers or nanoparticles, chain extending and introducing crosslinking structures were used to enhancing the heat stability or mechanical properties of PLA materials [1,3]. Formation of polymer blends is one of the using methods to improve the polymer properties.
